Felted tea cozy

Felted tea cozy

The final cozy felted a bit more than the gauge swatch, leaving the bottom of my tea pot exposed, but not by much. I think if I were to reknit this I’d add at least 3 more inches in length. Maybe just a squidge more. The finishing was super easy, I snipped a small hole [...]

Tea cozy, again

Second attempt, same yarn. Cast on 80 stitches over size 8 (US) circular needles and knit 3, p1 until it measured 9 inches tall. Then I slipped k3tog, p 1 on the last round, threaded the tail through the live loops twice, pulled tight and threw that sucker in the wash. Where it is now. [...]

Cotton yarn was probably not the best choice

Cotton yarn was probably not the best choice

At least not the best choice for a massive knitting project. I’ve finished one light blue Garden plot square and started on the second one. The squares are coming out nicely, but I have to work considerably less on them because the cotton has no give and makes my wrists ache.

Baby surprise jacket

Baby surprise jacket

I meant to blog this as I worked on it. Honest. The yarn is my handspun merino-bamboo blend “Fire Opal” hand-painted by the talented Moonlightbaker. The blogging plan went awry though. I couldn’t sleep, my brains felt like they were going to explode and there’s nothing more soothing to painful brains than a knitting project [...]

So I'm a little slow

So I’m a little slow

It just takes me a little longer to figure out what every other knitter knows already: Knitpicks is da’ shizzle when it comes to needles. Once I decide on a tried and true thing it’s very hard for me to change brands, or even styles within a brand. I debated for days, then weeks, and [...]

Finished Object

Finished Object

Well, almost. My friend Opal sent me some delicious handpainted fiber in a care package which enabled my latest knitting project. Can you tell what it is? It’s a spiralling scarf. Constructed like a flat doily, the only difference is that I didn’t stop making sections when it reached a circle, I just kept knitting [...]

Regrettable sock knitting

Regrettable sock knitting

Not much to say about these socks, other than I could have used a better yarn, in a better colorway, and planned my knitting a little better. Oh, and the heels are very very pointy. I still have no clue as to why I bought that yarn in the first place. None. At least they [...]

Pictures, glorious pictures!

Pictures, glorious pictures!

At least pictures going back to mid-2007 thus far. I have much more to do. And some pictures that appear to have not made the transfer, but most (at least until Jan 2006) seem to be alive and well. And I’ve been knitting! Possibly the ugliest socks I’ve made to date. The yarn is Lion [...]

Gray socks, little feet and a wide world

Gray socks, little feet and a wide world

There was a time when it took less than an hour to make Lexi a pair of socks. Baby feet are that small. Now she’s a big girl, and at the end of this summer she’ll be a whopping 5 years old. Now it takes a dedicated evening to come up with almost a pair [...]

Joys of the season

My nephew requested not one, but two knit items. Requested. That’s cool stuff right there, having a last minute knit request from a teenager. Of course we can’t do anything that isn’t video game related, he wants a hat and bag like Link’s from Legend of Zelda. I have the bag finished. The hat may [...]
