Read as an ordinary housewife melts down and pokes at people with her knitting needles

The weather has cooled off so I can justify forcing Greta to wear her sweater (just kidding, she actually likes to wear doggie clothes.) She’s mopey faced in this picture because she was told to sit when she really just wanted to sniff at the camera. I believe this qualifies as evidence that dogs are colorblind.

The looks from neighbors during her walks range from mildly amused to amused beyond all belief, Greta seems to think she’s made some friends since everyone smiles at her with what she seems to perceive as a certain amount of indulgence.

You might wonder how I know that she likes to wear doggie clothes. Well, one way that I know is because she will bring me her coat or a sweater if she’s nekkid and pester me with it until I help her put it on. Another way is that she’s a pill when I take anything off of her to wash it. Great Danes are not dogs that like cool weather and nekkidness.

Spinning! This is a dyeing experiment that didn’t quite come out as expected but quite pretty. It was supposed to be lime and dark blue, however all the blue sloughed out in the rinse leaving a light gray behind. I wasn’t quite sure about spinning it up but the grassy color made me happy so I decided to give it a go.

I also started the first step in turning our bath into something a little more presentable. The tiles around the tub are old and ugly (not dirty, just *really* ugly) so I asked dh to pick up a clear shower curtain, a curtain bar, and a white liner. We hung the liner next to the wall and clear curtain towards the tub. The tub sliders are tempered glass that have frosted swans on them. I’ve yet to come up with a theme other than “covering the ugly wall tiles” so it’s plain right now.
Okay so it’s not normal to have a shower curtain inside the tub cove, but it’s so much better than staring at those tiles. (Did I meantion they were ugly?)

Usually I don’t post things like this but the need is so desperate everywhere that a little link on my blog won’t kill anyone (or shouldn’t, if anyone dies due to a charitable link or two in this post: You have my sincerest apology). For everyone that joins the Oxygen network they will donate $1 (upto $10,000) to the Katrina Kids fund to help take care of the little ones that were evacuated to Houston.

EBay is hosting auctions where the proceeds are going to Katrina relief efforts, I’ve linked to the crafts catagory.

Etsy.com also has a store set up for Katrina relief efforts, go there for cool things and a good cause.

Now, I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade, if you are going to make a knitted item for the comfort of the victims, it might be better if you worked on it later rather than sooner or at least for someone you will be able to send it to personally as my understanding is that basic necessities are still the primary goal.

Layette sets are welcomed at 99% of the hospitals in this country (1/3rd of all American babies go home from the hospital wearing only a diaper) so if you must knit for charity right now baby knitting is a great cause and local within most communities (or you can stock pile your knitted items for survivors to be distributed later.)
