Read as an ordinary housewife melts down and pokes at people with her knitting needles

We’ve been having fun with dyes, I didn’t take a picture of the roving because it wasn’t that impressive, but figured I could just use it for some practice spinning.

I’m pretty happy with the results, I don’t know what I’m going to do with it yet, but I’ve been tossing around ideas for either a bolero or a shrug, I just don’t know.

Lexi celebrated her 2nd Birthday. It was terribly hot so we had dinner and cake outside.

She’s at a very adorable stage now, where exploring is so much more fun than anything else. During her explorations she’s always sure to leave a trail of moved items behind. For example, a cardboard baby book is left in place of a crayon, the crayon exchanged for the remote control, the remote control in exchange for a plastic spoon, the plastic spoon in exchange for a building block, building block in exchange for mommy’s wallet and so-on. The key to finding any missing object is catch Lexi with something in her hand and follow the path of exchanged items (usually all at her eyelevel) until you find what’s missing.

I have no doubt that Lexi knows where everything is, but she’s not telling.

I found some cheapo cold dye kits, one with a scarf and one with a book cover. I bought both and Josey and I did some handpainting and tye-dyeing. The scarf kit was suppose to have fushia and violet dyes, instead had the same green and blue colors that the bookcover kit had so we had a little surpluse– of course I had to dye some silk with it.I like it, and I’m sort of curious as to how it will spin up. I think I’m going to go back and buy one of the larger dye kits when I have some pin money. Josey could hardly wait for his book cover to dry, and then for a book to put it on. I found a blank journal and slipped it on for him. He was so thrilled and wants to do some more tye-dyeing soon. So long as the weather is nice enough to do it outside, I have no objections.

And yesterday the mailman put this lovely handspun from the craftster.org swap organized by Natasha (who is also my swap partner) into my mailbox. The picture doesn’t really do it justice, it’s very nice.

Wal-Mart is all too often a source of complete and utter confusion. Partially because it’s this HUGE convenient depot for cheap stuff, and in part because I know I really should be buying from small independent businesses.

I usually do reserve my “stuff” purchases for small businesses as a rule, and this was the first exception in a very long time. It’s a fleece panel and some printed linen depicting the other corporate hussy entity of the universe– Lucus Films.

Does anyone want to venture a guess as to which room I’m decorating in which theme?

I’d like to think that my child could find something more unique and interesting than Star Wars as a theme, and I told him as much. In a voice carrying more authority than should come from an 8 year old he replied “If I picked something esoteric no one would get it.”

Extra points for correctly using the word “esoteric”.
