Read as an ordinary housewife melts down and pokes at people with her knitting needles

Nothing much, working on some knitted dish cloths, making some leg warmers and trying to keep the house above the ambient temperature outside.

I have this burning desire to get some of my paints out and start randomly adding little flourishes to the trim around the windows but so far I have suppressed the desire because I don’t want to start making messes around the house that I won’t have time to clean up.

This weekend the snow and ice are finally melting although the weather feather seems to be promising more.

My little guy turned SEVEN years old yesterday. I know it’s typical but I still think of him as the little baby that I brought home in a snowstorm, his pink little face and wide eyes looking at everything (and probably not focusing). Ohh, a geometric shape!

We gave him a Game Cube game, a Game Cube controller, a Game Cube memory card, another Game Cube game and told him cheerily “Now when you get a Game Cube you’ll be all set to go! Happy Birthday!”

The expression on his face was “You idiots.”

Josey looked around and asked “Is that all my gifts?”

“I think so… no wait… maybe you should look under the tv.”

He actually screamed with joy. “You were just messing with my head.” he laughed.

Yeah, we can’t have normal birthdays and all, we’re just working on the daddy of all psychiatry bills.

On the needles? Just finished a little muffler for Josey (handspun mohair), started a sock (black/natural handspun tweed) and have just the collar to weave in on a little cardigan for Lexi.

It’s snowing so Josey had his first ever early release from school for a snow day at noon. I’m hoping tomorrow that he won’t have to go to school at all, it’ll be fun to build a couple of snowmen or a castle in the front yard.

My Grandma is home! It’s so good to see her with her color back (and her attitude), we went to Dad’s in Portland for New Years and they discharged her that morning– What a great way to start out the new year.

Finished the black soakers– I’m going to have to find a new word for them, since I make hers with long legs. Any suggestions? Calling them pants doesn’t quite fit, but they are hardly tights or shorties either.

Tomorrow my little guy turns SEVEN years old. Wow. I still tend to think of him as the tiny little bundle I brought home in a snow storm. Sheesh, now I’m going to be all mushy and teary.

Currently I’m spinning up some of the Raspberry Ice Kool Aid roving that I dyed this summer; I don’t have any clue as to what I’m going to do with it yet– I’m open to suggestions on that one too.

BTW– All of my Christmas gifts went over swimmingly. I couldn’t believe it, this year everything finally fit everyone– no one complained (of course I didn’t make Mom her gift since it was such a source of drama for her, she can just deal with the gift set from Wal-Mart but she’ll probably complain about that next time I talk to her).

Speaking of Christmas, my step-sister announced that she and her boyfriend are engaged. There’s a ring and no date, so I was rude enough to remind them “No date, not engaged.”– oh, it was a cute ring but not two months of Jeff’s pay. Come on– are there no traditions left?

I mean really– I’m not into begging for rocks, but I have had more serious marriage proposals than any one person should ever have (only because I’m the Empress of Waffles I’m sure) and a man that doesn’t suffer at least a little to buy a good hunk of compressed carbon, just is not serious enough for marriage.
